Principal resolution of the Board for Protection of Personal Data (protection of personal data in service areas such as counter, pay-desk, table)


A brief abstract concerning the principal resolution of the Board for Protection of Personal Data titled as “Protection of personal data in service areas such as counter, pay-desk, table” dated 21.12.2017 is provided below:

 The aforementioned resolution is related to the fulfilment of liabilities concerning data safety existing in the Article 12 of Personal Data Protection Law (“Law”). Within that context, the requirement of taking additional safety measures against the violation of personal data safety seen in areas such as counter, pay-desk, table in which services are supplied to the citizens. According to the resolution, the sectors that should particularly fulfil with that liability are provided below;

-Banking and healthcare

-mail and cargo services dealing with activities with more than one employee

-tourism agency

-customer service units of chain stores

-institutions handling various subscription processes

-private and public organizations supplying services concerning the municipality, tax and population

The Board has decided that the establishments indicated in this resolution should take the required technical and administrative measures to prevent the existence of unauthorized people within the areas such as counter, pay-desk, table and disallow the people to hear, see, learn or capture each other’s personal data while receiving those services standing at a close distance.

The Board will fine penalties on the violators of the aforementioned resolution as per the Article 18 of the Law.
